Article by Dr. Linda:
"Overcome Binge Eating"
At the age of 12 I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. As you or anyone in the field of insurance should know, this disorder is incredibly complex and does not come alone. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and told to see a psychiatrist and psychologist regularly in the hopes of one day recovering. Since then I have been to countless therapists and psychiatrists and have been on so many different medications that I can’t keep track. I tried intensive outpatient programs as well as inpatient programs with no success. At the age of 24, I had been anorexic, bulimic and diagnosed with anxiety and depression – basically I had wasted half of my life. At that point I was angry with the disorder for robbing me of my youth and desperate for more help.
I, like 99.9% of people in the United States can only afford to go to doctors who are in network. This should not be a problem and normally is not. With medical doctors, I look them up on the insurance company’s website and find a specialist. I did the same when it came to finding a psychiatrist and psychologist who specialized in eating disorders, depression and anxiety. After 12 years of trying this I had had enough and needed to find someone who has actually been recognized for specializing in these fields, not someone who just checks them off on a list and says they do.
I went on the National Eating Disorder’s Association website (NEDA) and the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) to find doctors in my area who could help me. I found Dr. Linda Blakeley who was recognized for specializing in eating disorders on both websites. I contacted her and she was so gracious as to work with my insurance company to help pay for my sessions… I began going to her in January 2008, 3 times a week and immediately knew she was going to change my life. She brought up issues no therapist had even considered bringing up and this all helped and was necessary for my recovery. I gradually started seeing her less often, 2 days a week, then one day a week and now I am happy to say I see her twice a month. I still need to go to her because I need her help. I had this disorder for 12 years and it can’t go away in just two.
Thank you Dr. Blakeley for helping to save my life.

You know how grateful I am for all your help and patience over the last few years. I have come so far and I owe it all to you!

I want to thank you for checking on me and making yourself available to others that may need your help after the unthinkable tragedy on September 11,2001. I have spoken to some flight attendants and they too were warmed by your offer. Because you helped me deal with my personal tragedy, I am that much stronger and clearer in getting through this national tragedy. Thank you Linda.
Its 2 days after my 50th birthday and Im in Tuscany. Without your help and support, even if I had managed this trip anyway, I would not have been able to take in all these good feelings and would probably not have recognized or been able to acknowledge and accept them. Like I said before, I knew you were good but not this good!!!
(From a journal entry) I just got back from a therapy session with Linda Blakeley. It has given me hope, strength, peace, reassurance. I shared, I listened, I learned. Wow. This lady is the key for me. She has suffered with an eating disorder herself and I felt like family from the moment I shook her hand. For a first time, it was awesome.
Thank you very much for your assistance with my daughter and issues around my divorce from my ex-wife. You were able to pull my ex-wife from her depression and stand on her two feet. I believe that for people who need a major emotional tune-up your work is like a miracle.
I was a successful production supervisor in a division of a national corporation when I started to have attacks on my way to work. My heart would start racing, I would get light headed and feel as though I couldnt breathe. At first I tried to ignore these episodes, then they got progressively worse. I saw a doctor about it, but all he could do was prescribe drugs. I couldnt drive and I felt frightened to leave my house. I needed help and through a friend I found Linda Blakeley.
From the fist time I met with Linda, I felt very comfortable talking to her. With her deep compassion and insight she helped me get back on my feet again. She guided me through my attacks, drug addiction, work addiction and fears of anger and confrontation by helping me discover the reasons that I chose to live the way that I was living. Her support and understanding helped me to re-experience my abused childhood and to discover that as a child, I learned ways to survive in an insane situation.
Our work together has affected every aspect of my life. Not only am I back to work but I find that by learning new ways to cope with my job and the people around me I am more affective in 40 hours now than I was before working 80 hours a week. I have been promoted to management status, travel across the country and instead of being afraid of conflict, I am considered very successful at facing and resolving conflict. I am a happier person after working with Linda. I have recommended her to friends and will continue to recommend her services unconditionally.
I have been meaning to drop you a line for some time. Things are going well, still working hard, still with________and things are great. I want to thank you for all of your help and say that I couldn’t have done it without you.
